In our language it is absolutely normal to use relative physical locations to describe relationships. The ConsulToSee coaching approach is making use of this hidden knowledge with systemic constellation.

It is independent of Culture …

Whether we are Vietnamese or German or Brazilian, we all know exactly, what it means to say:

  1. “She has an influential person behind her.”
  2. “The exam is an obstacle standing between him and a new assignment.”
  3. “His way to work is miles away from what is expected.”

All three sentences show a relationship between people or between people and abstract objects. And they describe their relationship by referring to a location.

… and easily understood

So, when one person in 1) stands behind another person, it means that the person in the back is supporting the one in the front. And in 2), there is obviously no tangible object standing between someone and his assignment, that he has to overcome physically.

As well as in 3) a large physical distance is just synonymous to a big difference between expectations and reality.

And we all understand this way to describe actual relationships, because all our languages have evolved in a similar way: A physical location can describe a relationship. And systemic constellation is using exactly this.

But often our Relationships are difficult

Our entire life, our functioning in family, work and society consists of relationships. And often these are rather difficult. They are difficult because any action we take has an immediate impact on our surrounding. And because in a family or a company everything is interconnected, this impact and its consequences is often too complex to foresee. Therefore, we invest a large part of our time to improve our relationships with people or with goals and obstacles standing in our way. So why do we not use our intuitive knowledge about the direct connection between physical location and our relationships to understand them better? Why do we not just physically look at them?

A Coaching Exercise

In fact, everyone can do it without preparation:

  1. Think of a goal and grab a chair which symbolises this goal.
  2. Place this chair in the room at a place which feels appropriate.
  3. Wander around in the room and find your own most comfortable place.
  4. Stay in this place and check:
    • Can you see from your current position the goal or do you need to turn around?
    • If someone would sit on the chair, would he see you or would he look into a different direction?
    • Do you feel far from the goal or close to it?

Have you tried it?

With this little exercise you have already done a small systemic constellation. It is a small but powerful tool to analyse your relationship. Because your physical impression usually can be translated directly into the relationship. E.g., if you do not look into the direction of the goal, you might be currently busy with something else. It is out of your sight. That’s why you cannot reach it.

Systemic Constellation makes Coaching and Business Consulting tangible

Of course, when doing it alone, you are always biased. But with the support of Dr. Torsten Seeger you can actually do a systemic constellation for a deep analysis of your situation. In the example, you can explore what is it actually that stops you from reaching your goal. You can explore, where you are “standing” in your family or in your team. Or you can understand where your organization is “standing” relative to others or where your product is “standing” within a market.

With ConsulToSee systemic constellation is applied to improve your relationships in corporate coaching, in personal development coaching and business consulting.
